Rethink Magazine is a collection of creative, lyrical, and innovative pieces grounded in the same premise: rethinking the status quo. We are an international, youth-run platform featuring prose, poetry, artwork, and more. Rethink celebrates courage in stepping into the unknown, untamed, and undiscovered. So, welcome, writers, thinkers, and change-makers!

Our story
The founding of Rethink Magazine was sparked by a simple question,
“What if we turned this into a magazine?”
In July 2024, at Kenyon Young Writers’ Residential Workshop in Kenyon College, Ohio, two teen writers, co-founder Danika Liu (British Columbia, Canada) and Megan Wu (Texas, USA) heard fellow classmates voicing their desire to publish more works, unsure of where or how, overwhelmed with the inaccessibility of opportunities in the literary world.
Instead of waiting for the gaps to fill themselves, they decided to take action. Only hours before the final graduation farewell, they moved fast: recruiting classmates to join their team, designing QR coded submission-forms, chasing down the program director for an announcement at the evening reading. Within two hours, Rethink Magazine was born: a platform dedicated to providing accessible publication and literary opportunities to all aspiring writers, as a rebellion against etched barriers of contest fees, rigid timelines, and confusing submission portals for youth writers.
Back home, they received submissions from more than 60% of their co-hort, a testament that this passion-project could positively aid youth creatives. If Kenyon writers lacked opportunities to publish, surely others did too. So the vision expanded: to build a global platform for all thinkers, changemakers, and curious minds. From that spark, Rethink Magazine was born.
Since then, we’ve:
- Reached 20k+ readers internationally through various platforms
- Raised $3,000+ from sales-fundraisers and go-fund-me, collected 1,000+ books from 9 schools to support literacy with DevelopAfrica.
- Taught 30+ underserved youth in a virtual workshop program, training 12 students to oversee editorial work.
- Published 6 magazine issues, featuring 60+ writers
- Hosted 4 global writing competitions
Today, Rethink is much more than a passion project. It’s a movement. We created opportunities that we had once longed for that had yet to exist. We amplify youth writers’ voices, empower creativity around the world, and create opportunities that should not be limited to those who can afford it.
And that’s why we’re changing the literary game!
Because every aspiring writer deserves a platform to be heard.
